RYLA Mission Statement
“Our goal is to engage students (whether they are in public, private, vocational high schools or homeschooled) in our District through leadership programs and mentorship to become more actively engaged in community service. This mentorship program extends to all RYLA alumni (high school, university, and real-world) that commit to supporting Rotary’s programs and to continually develop and refine their leadership skills. The ultimate hope is to create the next generation of leaders.”
The RYLA program in District 7950 is a unique opportunity for tomorrow’s leaders to gain hands-on experience in developing leadership skills with a focus on community service. While the RYLA Conference is for high school sophomores and juniors, RYLA also provides opportunities for RYLA Alumni to step forward and work with Rotarians and other organizations to put their leadership skills into action through the coordination of leadership seminars and community service projects throughout the year. Our 2010 theme was M.K. Gandhi’s ‘Be the Change You Want to See in the World’ – a theme that has become embodied in the work that our RYLArian Alumni have undertaken since then
|2014 RYLA Conference|
This year’s RYLA Conference takes place at the beautiful Cape Cod Sea Camps in Brewster, MA from May 9th to May 11th, 2014. Every year the program and new theme are chosen by RYLA Alumni, selected from previous year’s RYLA participants for their leadership skills. Together with their Rotarian advisors, the Alumni develop a weekend filled with engaging speakers, thought provoking workshops, seminars and the ever popular ropes course. Every RYLA includes the following topics:
- Fundamentals of leadership
- Ethics of positive leadership
- Importance of communication skills in effective leadership
- Problem-solving and conflict management
- Building self confidence and self-esteem
- Elements of community service and global citizenship
The RYLA Weekend is free to all participants who are selected by a Rotary Club to attend. Please note that the RYLA weekend is a full commitment for all – and all students are required to attend the entire weekend – our event kicks off around 1 pm on Friday May 9th and will end around 5 pm on Sunday, May 11th. Transportation times leading into and from the event will be designed around those core times.
